Currently, three  projects are investigating the use of the Maximum Entropy Production (MEP) principle for understanding microbial and ecosystem biogeochemistry.

Methanotrophic Microcosms
Theory: Biological systems organize to maximize entropy production subject to information and biophysicochemical constraints. This project is using methanotrophic microcosms to study several conjectures derived from MEP. See the project web site (ATB-MEP) for more information.
