Netscape Plug-Ins

HTML Standards

In order to make an html document display on any computer, a standard has to be set. The problem with this is that standards can sometime take a long time to get "standardize". One way to extend the capabilities of a browser is to add a program module that is capable of handling other types of objects, such as sound and special graphic images. This is were Netscape Plug-Ins come in.

Netscape Plug-Ins

Netscape Plug-Ins are applications that can be dynamically linked with Navigator so as to extend the capabilities of the browser. These Plug-Ins can be accessed using the Software button in Navigator. Plug-Ins also work for Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Some of the current plug-ins are:
  • RealAudio: Real time audio player
  • Live3D: Display VRML
  • CoolTalk: Phone like
  • Acrobat: Displays Adobe PDF files
  • InterVU: MPEG player
Many more are available.
