Modeling Projects

Below are some of the modeling projects I'm working on (or have worked on).

Data Assimilation

Examines how data assimilation techniques coupled to mesocosm experiments can be used to improve aquatic food web models. This page is still being developed.

1D Advection-Dispersion Model

Description of a 1D advection-dispersion model used to model an estuarine food web in Plum Island Estuary. A moving grid is employed to solve the resulting PDE system. Although this transport model is only an approximation, its rapid solution allows complex food web models to be readily developed, tested and explored. The work on this model has largely been completed.

2D Hydrodynamic Model

A 2D hydrodynamic model is being developed for the Plum Island Estuary. A diffusive wave approach is used to simplify the hyperbolic PDE and to couple in subsurface processes. The hydrodynamic model will drive a 2D advection-dispersion model that governs estuarine biogeochemistry. This work is on going.

PIE-FVCOM

PIE-FVCOM 3D Model

Development and application of FVCOM to PIE.  This research is in collaboration with Changsheng Chen and Liuzhi Zhao at UMass Dartmouth.
